Digital Dozen does Marble - Day 1

Happy New Year everyone. I'm still here, not very often, but I'm still here posting nail art.  58 blog posts last year - that was a pretty lame effort.  Lets see if I can improve on that stat this year?  I'm guessing that once I get to post all the 31 Day Nail Art I've been doing then I'll be well over the half way mark pretty quickly!

This week is the first Digital Dozen week of the year, and the first prompt is Marble. There are so many different marble techniques now that this prompt was pretty easy.  I did start out with some classic watermarble nails.  I did these by leaving the pattern to dry on top of the water and then cut them up and applied as decals. Its so much easier this way!

The stamping on my middle finger was for my daughter. Today she turned 8 years old and I wanted to add something to my nails for her today. Naturally as soon as she saw my watermabled nails she wanted matching ones too, but I told her I'm not putting in this sort of effort until she learns not to pick them off. She's a picker my daughter (she gets it from her father!) She would have amazing nails applied and they wont last longer than an hour until she picks them off. I wonder what age she will out grown that behaviour?

26 Great Nail Art Ideas - Dry or Drag Marble

I have a quick mani for you tonight for last weeks prompt of the 26 Great Nail Art Ideas challenge. I wanted to get this up tonight before another week of Digital Dozen starts tomorrow.

The prompt was Dry or Drag marble and I'm super pleased with how this on the nail drag marble turned out.  I used some polishes from the old and the new pastel pet name polishes from Pretty Serious.

31DC2017 - Galaxy 3D curtain pull

Day 19 - Yippee, the end is in sight ladies, although the last third of the challenge is definitely the toughest.

Today's theme is Galaxy, and I got the idea for today's mani from the always innovative @Narmai, or PiggyLuv. Back in 2015 she created what she called a curtain pull design, with a little bit of 3D texture to really give it a surrealistic look.

I used that inspiration to have a little rocket, flying through space, with a thread behind it that was pulling away the galaxy curtain.  Unfortunately it's really hard to see my 3D elements on the curtain pull part, maybe it needed to make them a bit higher, but if you look closely at the pictures you can see it.

Loving Pretty Serious' Daphne's Masquerade Party for the glittery holo effect in the galaxy.

Pretty Serious - Wish you were Beer

Two swatches in two day, what's going on...

Here is a swatch of another polish that I picked up at Aussie Indie Con.  This is Pretty Serious, Wish you were beer.

Oh how I wish I was able to photograph this to look like it does in its natural, glorious, real life form. It's so much sparklier and amazing.  It reminds me of OPI Golden Eye, but with holo and a more jelly finish.  I generally go for much cooler toned golds, and really this is more of an amber shade, but wow, I do love it.  This is a convention exclusive polish, but I believe there are still a few bottle available on the Pretty Serious website.

I did two coats for this swatch and a thick coat of Seche Vite top coat.

Pretty Serious - Daphne's Masquerade Party - 5th Anniversary Polish

Hello and look what I picked up yesterday!  It was a hard choice going through all the polishes I picked up at Aussie Indie Con yesterday to select which one to wear first. But seeing the Pretty Serious 5th Anniversary shade, Daphne's Masquerade Party sparkle under my LED lamp was the clincher.

First up, let me say that Aussie Indie Con was fantastic. I met so many Aussie nail enthusiasts, both vendors and customers and I had a ball doing my workshops and demos. But I just don't have the energy tonight after the drive home from Sydney to do the write up justice.  So it's going to have to wait. Plus I have a confession to make. I made a serious rookie mistake on the day!  I met so many people and talked so much that I didn't take a single damn photo. So I'm gonna have to find other people's photos and see what I can link to.

Let's talk about Daphne's Masquerade Party. Firstly, it's not available just yet on the PS site as they are still filling order from their massive sale this last week.  But I wouldn't think the wait will be long.

I used it here in two ways. Firstly, a single coat as a glitter topper over a gradient using four of the pastel pets shades.  On my accent nail I used the sponging technique to get full coverage.  I was impressed that it built up very quickly using the sponge technique. I only applied the sponged on polish three times to get this looks, but the best thing about that sponge technique is that you don't end up with a thick lump of polish on your nail to get all that glitter.

I have some macros down below so you can see the types of glitter in this polish. As well as the silver holo there is also a gorgeous iridescent pink flash. Formula was thin and smooth and it works beautifully as a topper with a even distribution of glitter across your nail. I'm sure you could build it to opacity on it's own, but clearly sponging it on is the best way to not end up with an accidental polish mountain.

Stamping decals with Pretty Serious Type 40

Another mani from the archives here, which was done way back before I broken my foot and ankle.  I don't actually recall what I was trying to create here other than I did a bunch of stamping decals an just coloured them in.

This is a image from an Emily de Molly plate if I recall correctly, and for some reason I feel like they have an Egyptian feel to them. I'm not sure why, but the blue reminds me of the Nile river and the other bold colours just give me that vibe. I did all ten nails with this design and it sure was an eye catching look.

I've not done any complex nail art like this for a while, so I really need to get back into it a bit. I've also got so many draft posts of nail art and swatches I've done over the last two months that I just can't be bothered to write up about.  I think I need to dedicate a day to writing up blog posts so I can just get this stuff published.

Pretty Serious Pastel Pet Names gradient and stamping decals

I still have a huge crush on this collection. It's so bad that I can't even put the polishes away in my helmer. I just keep grabbing for them so often at the moment, and not just one of them, all of them, always together. Because they are so perfect together.

This time around I did a simple gradient and some flower stamping decals. Look at how smooth that gradient is, those colours just smoosh together perfectly. The flowers are from DRK Stamping plate Secret Garden XL.  This is such a great plate and I find myself using it over and over again. It has lots of floral full nail designs and heaps of images that work really well for either leadlighting or stamping decals.

Look out for my tutorial video on Instagram coming soon.

Pretty Serious - Pastel Pets Names Collection watermarble and swatches.

I've been MIA for several days.  My son had his tonsils and adenoids out on Tuesday and has been pretty knocked about by it.  But now that he is home from hospital, and I have some time off work to care for him, I'm able to sneak in some cheeky blog posts and nail swatching!

I don't buy much polish these days.  The crazy days of me buying every collection I saw are well behind me now.  These days I only buy a whole collection if they really talk to me.  Once again, Pretty Serious has done it for me, just like they did with metallic collection at Christmas time last year, where I saw the collection and knew I had to get them all.

My immediate reaction when I saw them all lined up together is "I have to try these in a water marble".  Of course water marbling is a very fickle business, and whether it's going to work for you isn't, in my opinion, anything to to with your skill, it's all about the polish you use.  So my question was then, will these new polishes from Pretty Serious water marble like I want them to?  Clearly the answer to that is YES!

I used all six colours for my flower patter watermarble. Aint it pretty! I've done pastel water marbles before, using my own polishes that I've mixed up, but I love that the Pretty Serious pastels are stronger and brighter pastels that the ones I already have.

Now for some swatches of each of the different colours. The forumla on all of these was excellent, two coats of perfectness - including the yellow.  These swatches show two coats plus Seche Vite top coat. I'm kicking myself now that I haven't got some of the original bright Pet name polishes too.

Bunny Foo foo - a cool blue leaning creamy mint shade.

Cutie Patootie - mid toned lavender purple.

Doodle bug - a mid toned aqua blue, the brightest shade of the bunch.

Fluffykins - classic fairy floss (or cotton candy for you US readers) pink.

Little duckling - soft pastel yellow, a really pretty and wearable yellow.

Peachie poo - creamy pastel peach.

I bought these during the pre-sale, but they will be available for general purchase from 28 May 2016 via the Pretty Serious website.

Pretty Serious - Ghosts of Christmas Future Collection

You know I don't buy much nail polish these days.  I can generally convince myself that somewhere in my stash is a polish that is similar enough to not needing to buy new ones.  So it must be something pretty special when I decided to buy a whole collection.

I'm a sucker for collections that have rainbow shades in the same finish, and the Pretty Serious Ghosts of Christmas Future collection is exactly that.  A collection of eight strongly pigmented foils with a reflective metallic sheen.

One of these colours was already in my collection - Santa's Sunburn. It was released back in 2012 as part of the Christmas without Snow collection. It also made the cut as one of my favourite polishes for that year. So when I saw a whole collection of polishes with the similar finish to Santas Sunburn, but in a rainbow of colours, I was drawn to buy them.

These polishes are fantastic for nail art, and I used a few of them before Christmas as can be seen on my Pretty Serious tag. I love them cause they are metallic and shiny and because they are nicely pigmented. I used two coats for all these swatches, most of them were opaque in one coat and applied beautifully, but I like the thickness of two layers.

Anyway, lets look at my swatches. First photo of each polish was taken in the shade, second photo taken in the full sun.

Santa's Sunburn

A Christmas time paradox.

Eat, drink and assimilate.

Frosty the snowborg.

Hack the halls.

Joy to the overlords.

The night before.

Yuletide of the machines.

As much as I love these polishes, I have to say I did have one disappointment with the collection.  I had really hoped one of the colours would be the amazing yellow gold polish that Ben and Kaz showed in their blog post titled "Midas has nothing on us!" back in March 2013 when they were selecting Seriously Random polishes. They even said then it was a gold version of Santa's Sunburn. So, whilst I love Yuletide of the machines, I kind of wish is was the bright yellow gold rather than having two bronze/orange shades.
