Picture Polish Blog Fest 2014

So have you noticed that today is Picture Polish Blog/Insta Fest yet?  Of course you have, because at least 35 other bloggers have already posted their swatches and nail vinyls art.

I'm excited to be part of the fourth annual Picture Polish blog fest.  I've been joining in with blogfest for all four years, so it's a bit of a laugh looking back at my previous years blog fest posts - especially that one from 2011.

First up this year I have a swatch of one of the new released shades.  This is Pandora, which is a re release of Ozotic 624. It's a gorgeous purple jelly with a scattered holo effect. Shown here is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Now for my blogfest nail art featuring the right angle nail vinyls.  For this mani I created a simple diagonal gradient using two more new Picture Polish shades.

Grace, which is a very pale pastel pink with scattered holo, and a re release of Ozotic 607, although they are not identical polishes - I will try to sort out a comparison post of how the re released Ozotics as Picture Polishes compare.

The second colour here is Bette, which is a pastel blue with scattered holo.  This one is a re release of Ozotic 617, but to my eye it seems closer to 603. Again, I'll have to do a comparison of these new shades for you against the old Ozotics.

I originally planned to use the nail vinyls to put Bette over Grace, but both polishes are just a little to sheer to achieve that result.  They are both best shown at three coats, and I wasn't able to put three coats over the vinyl and make it look any good.  Therefore I ended up using white polish with the narrowest right angle vinyls.  The right angle pack comes with four widths of right angles, with 8 right angle pieces in each set.  You can see that I used a wider set on my thumb.

The only trouble I had was with trying to pick up the whole right angle piece and put it on the nail. Even with tweezers I had trouble keeping them together.  They worked perfectly on my middle finger, but on my ring finger they came apart, so I had to place each piece individually.  This meant the lines were a little less perfect on my ring finger.  Notice how perfectly even they are on my middle finger? That's because you just stick down the whole piece of the nail vinyl and then peel up every second line.  That's what makes the spacing so even.

I really like to optical illusion look to these right angle vinyls and I'm excited to use them again with some more opaque polishes.

piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013

Welcome to another year of Picture Polish's Blog Fest - this year we are celebrating the Year of the Blogger!

This years blog fest is a bit different from the past two (can you believe this is the third blog fest already!) Rather than releasing new shades this year, Blog Fest 2013 is all about nail art.  We were all challenged to create new nail art looks using three Picture Polish shades.

When selecting shades, I chose the three new collaboration shades - as they were the only Picture Polish colours that I didn't yet own.  It was only after reading through the Blog Fest instructions again that I realised what a challenge I had set myself.

If I'd have thought about it a little more, I would have chosen to use three shades that compliment each other better, you see, the instructions said to only use the three Picture Polish shades provided to you. Wowser, I had chosen three very different polishes and finishes and it was going to be a real challenge to make these three polishes look good together in a single mani.

Frosting is a pink creme with glitters, Whimsy is a blue creme with gold shimmer and Sea Jewel is green with silver glitter.  I really didn't know how I was going to pull a design together. But everyone loves a challenge right!

I've been a little creative in my use of all three polishes, but I certainly did use all three (and only those three polishes in creating this look)

I created a skittlette mani.  I started with a base of whimsy.  Then on my index and middle fingers I did a gradient using sea jewel.  On my ring and pinky fingers I did lines of different widths using sea jewel.  To pull all the polishes together into one design, I carefully picked out some of the holographic silver hearts that are in frosting.  I cleaned the hearts up using acetone and them placed them onto my nails using top coat.

I love Picture Polish's Blog Fest, there are going to be so many amazing manis popping up all over the world over the next 24ish hours.

Picture Polish will also have all blogfest pictures up on their Pinterest page.

Picture Polish are available directly from their website or through any of their Network members. You can also follow them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2012

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback and comments about Picture Polish Kryptonite!  Are you ready for some more Picture Polish action?  I hope so, cause today is Picture Polish Blog Fest 2012.  In its second year, this is my favorite nail blogging world wide event - hang on, this is the only nail blogging world wide event I know of!

Today 80! nail bloggers from all around the world will all be showcasing Picture Polish nail polishes.  I can't wait to see some more new colours - there are 11 brand new shades, including seven in the Collaboration Collection. You can see the bottle pictures of them all on the Picture Polish site.

Today its my pleasure to bring you swatches of two of those new colours. White Wedding and Warning.

White Wedding is another polish from the Collaboration Collection, just like Kryptonite. White Wedding has been created by Leah Ann from Llarowe.  White Wedding is a white jelly polish with a multi-coloured shimmery glass fleck.

This is such a pretty polish and I found it so hard to capture all the glorious coloured flecks in this polish.  The best one is the picture above where you can see all the multi-coloured tiny flecks against the edge of the bottle.  It is so delicate and pretty, and I've not seen a multi-coloured fleck like this before.

For this mani I chose to wear two coats of white wedding over a white base.  You could get white wedding opaque on its own. It would take about 4 coats, but it would have that gorgeous translucent jelly finish to it.

These photos of white wedding are taken in the sun, and the multi-coloured shimmery glass flecks really pop.  They make the polish look like it's covered is sparkly frost, or maybe smooth shiny sugar crystals.  The little catchphrase on this bottle is "It's a nice day for this one!" a cute little play on words from one of my favourite '80's singers!

White Wedding is Llarowe's exclusive shade, therefore it will only be available to purchase from the Llarowe website or through Picture Polish online, it is not for sale via other network members.  I'm not exactly sure when it will be available, but it will be soon.  It will retail for $11.50 in Australia and I think it will be $14.50 on Llarowe.

Warning is another new colour, although this one isn't in the collaboration range, which just shows that those girls at Picture Polish really know what they are doing when creating colours.

Warning is a really complex colour and its hard to describe.  It's definitely a duochrome with a bright lavender jelly base and what appears to be the same multi-coloured glass flecks. But I also see lots of blue flecks too.  Its totally unlike anything else in my collection.

Here are a couple of pictures of it in the shade, where the duo-chrome pops.

In the sun, more of the lavender purple base shines through, and the glass flecks are super shiny and reflective.

This colour really flattered my winter white fingers.  It's shown in this mani as two coats with Seche Vite top coat.  The catchphrase on this bottle is "for the young & the not so young".

Warning will be available from Picture Polish online and through all Network members.  It retails in Australia for $11.50.

Here are a couple of other things I love about Picture Polish nail polish:
  • they recently changed their labeling, so now dark shades have labels with white print.
  • their packaging in general, the retangular bottles are perfect for storage and I love the grippy black handles.
  • they are Australian made and owned!
All shades, except warning and white wedding, are available now from Picture Polish. Warning and White Wedding are available for pre-order and will out in about three weeks.

Ok, I'm off now to go blog surfing, I want to find the other Blog Fest blogs to check out all the swatches!

These polishes were sent to me for review.

piCture pOlish blog fest - Antique

Here it is, early on  Monday 25 July 2011 in Australia, which is officially piCture pOlish blog fest day.  Over the next 48 hours around the world, I suspect you will be seeing quite a lot of piCture pOlish shades swatched and reviewed. I think this was a genius idea from the girls at piCture pOlish to get their shades swatched and to take over the blogisphere for a day.

I was lucky enough to be selected to showcase one of piCture pOlish's new shades - Antique.  For me, while I was very familiar with the girls from piCture pOlish for my many purchases of Oztoic Pro polishes, I had yet to try any of their private label polish.

So without further babble, here it is.

Antique is a dusty violet base packed with tiny square silver glitter.  In the sun it is amazingly sparkly and in the shade you can really see the density and depth of the glitter.  It applied very nicely and was opaque in two coats.  But being a dense glitter it does require a good layer of top coat to smooth out the grittiness (unless you like that sandpaper feel).  These pics are two coats plus Seche Vite top coat.

In the picture above it still looks kinda gritty with the sun bouncing off at all different angles, although as you can see below, it was silky smooth.

Here is an indoor macro shot of that glitter.

I first saw this polish on piCture pOlishes facebook page where they had a naming competition for this shade and two others. What is cool is that a fellow Aussie blogger Shatter me Claire won with her name of 'Antique' for this polish - Yay for Claire.  Here is the photo they used for the naming competition.

The funny thing is, when I saw this picture on facebook, and then saw this bottle in real life, I was totally surprised because it looked so different to what I thought it would look like.  I was expecting it to be more of a metallic shade rather than a glitter. But I'm a glitter hoe, so glitter is great!   I also saw Jacie's post about 'Jealously' (the green polish) which compared to that above picture, looks like a totally different polish.  Jacie's swatch looks apple green, but above it so much darker and forest like.  I guess that just shows that you can't rely on bottle pics to truly select a shade.

The other thing I noticed was that it might be a dupe for another polish in my stash. Ulta 3 Candied Violet.

So of course I swatched them together straight away.

As you can see, the colours indoors are almost identical, but Antique's glitter is much more dense, which does make it pop just that little bit more in the sun. You can see how much more reflective Antique is compared to Candied Violet below.

At this angle in the sun you can see that Antique is more opaque at two coats and leans a more mauve base, whereas Candied Violet appears more pink.

Ulta 3 Candied Violet costs only $2.25, but you have to be prepared to search your entire city or state by going through the Ulta 3 bins at the chemist if you want to find one.  I haven't seen a bottle for ages. But if you already have a bottle of Candied Violet, then it's a close enough dupe.  Another polish that is a close dupe is Chemistry 133, which Claire did as a comparison.

About these bottles.  I love love the shape, I wish all my nail polish was in these bottles as they would be so perfect for storage. But I do wish that the bottles had a size on them.  I mean how many mls are these?  My guess would be about 12ml, but that really is a guess.  PP gals, I think you should get the size printed on the bottle.  Also, none of these bottles have the ingredients on them, but they do have the website URL printed on them and their website does have a page that lists all the ingredients.

piCture pOlishes are AUD$9.90, which to ladies in other countries may sound quite expensive.  However, in a country where OPI retails for $19.95,  China Glaze for $18.95 and Orly for $16.95 any boutique polish under $10 is still pretty good value.

Will I be purchasing piCuture pOlish brand lacquers in the future? I certainly think so.  The formula and wear on this one was nice, it's just a shame that I got a shade that was dupy to one already in my stash (but I guess that happens when you have ~500 bottles). Now I just need to check everyone else's swatches to see what colours I like.
