Digital Dozen does 5 Continents in 5 days - Asia or Africa

Today's post, like the rest of the week, was all about where the polish was from. In this case, Russia, and therefore in the Asian continent. Yet I ended up doing an Egyptian theme, so you could also say that this mani represents the African continent.

This mani was so amazing, and I'm really pissed at myself. You see I created this beautiful design with a light blue to yellow gradient as the background. I then used the Bow thermal polishes to create a dark sunset gradient over the top. Then I only remembered to photograph it in the warm state, were you can't even see the Bow thermal top coats except for the holo sparkles.

The only thing I did remember to do was a transition video. So that's the only way you will get to see the cold state.

Bow thermal top coats

I recently splurged and grabbed myself the full set of Bow polish thermal top coats.  I had previous received the black one for review and decided I needed the full set.  I was lured in after seeing amazing mani's by Anna Goralova and Sveta Sanders.  I'm so glad I got them because they are so fun to wear and give me endless amusement.

These polishes seem to really match my own thermal dynamics, because often during the day my nails would switch between the full warm look to the full cold look, and obviously various stages in between.  Maybe that's because it's winter here, so going inside and outside would make a significant difference.  These polishes also never cease to amaze my colleagues at work, who often notice that my nails have changed colour before their eyes.

These top coats are nicely pigmented in their cold state and in their warm state they are nearly opaque too, but a neutral opaque with just the slightest tint.  The pink one would be the best in terms of going to a completely invisible colour when cold, the purple, blue and green ones still have the slightest tint when cold.

For this mani I did random swipes of all the colours over my nails. It was really hard to tell what the final look was going to be like because when I painted my nails my fingers were warm.  Therefore the colour just kept disappearing to an opaque white as I painted it on.  Next I stamped a bubble pattern using Dance Legend T1000, which is a silver holo.  This just gave it an extra bit of sparkle, even though the Bow thermal top coats also have a nice sprinkling of scattered holo.

It's pretty obvious to tell which is the cold version and which is the warm.  This first photo is actually two photos cut together down the middle two fingers.

I have so many ideas for these manis, so be prepared to see me still getting excited by thermals.

Shattered glass lines

I might be the last person to have tried shattered glass nails, and in this state I can hardly called the shattered, more like neatly aligned glass lines.

I've wanted to do some shatter glass designs for a while now, but I just didn't have the iridescent stuff that you need to stick on your nails.  However, given it was Easter last weekend, my kids had some of this iridescent stringy stuff in a basket of eggs and I thought I would try it out in my nail art.

As my base polish I used BOW polish thermal top coat.  It's a good solid black scattered holo when it's cold and a sheer nude when it's warm.  I just loved how it looked when it was cold, not so much when it was warm.  When it's cold it showed green hues with flashes of blue and purple - very cool. When it was warm, I just saw yellow and brown zombie nails - bleh!

... and now the bleh warm version!

Bow polish thermal top coat

This is a super fun polish to play with.  Bow Polish Thermal top coat.  Now I actually used it as a base coat, and at three coats it is opaque enough not to show a visible nail line.  The colour when warm in a neutral shade of nothing.  It's like a totally sheer polish, but it's opaque.

I ended up doing some stamping on top using a Bundle Monster plate with bottle of nail polish on it. I wasn't my best stamping and in fact I did have a bit of trouble picking up the fine lines of the design, no matter which stamper I used.  I think my plate just isn't very well etched.  I coloured the nail polish bottles in with sharpies, for not particular reason other than it was quick and easy to do.

What my photos don't show is that this top coat polish goes from this nude shade to black.  It is also full of scatter holo flakes.  You can see my tips staring to go black here, but I did this mani about 6 weeks ago (whoops, sorry Dance Legend, I really should of gotten this review up earlier!) where my nails were shorter and we were having temps in the mid 30's (that's Celsius people). That is why my nails were almost always showing the warm colour.  You can see the bottle is totally black.

When my hands were colder, like when I was in the office, my nails were just a chic scattered holo black, but then they would change colour, and the sneaky stamped pattern beneath would show through.

I haven't tried this as a top coat yet, I'm not sure if it would be too opaque to hide the nail art you put underneath it, but it really works amazing as a base for nail art, and effectively does the same thing, that is, you have black nails that magically disappear when they are warm.

Bow Nail Polish - NeoNation Collection

Have you heard about Bow Nail Polish?  It's a newer brand out of Russia created by the creative director of Dance Legend polishes.  The polishes are not part of the Dance Legend line, but rather a separate brand in 11ml rectangle bottles.  On launch last year, the brand released three collections of six polishes, NeoNation was one of those collections.

The polishes in the NeoNation collection are all neon jellys with a scattered holo flakes and a complementary shimmer.  On their own you need three coats to get full coverage, and with three coats they have a lovely depth of colour.  Being neons they also dry to a matte or semi matte finish, so you will need a shiny topcoat to bring out the best in the holo shimmer.

I wore all these polishes together in the neon tribal pattern, created by using the advanced stamping technique on clear jelly stampers.

Let's look at each of the shades a little closer.  My photos are taken under a desk lamp, as unfortunately I've been working too much and haven't been able to swatch during normal daylight hours. All the polishes are a little brighter in real life compared to my photos.

Breathe Life - Bright lime green jelly with a golden shimmer.

Doll Everyone - Neon pink jelly with scattered holo and a golden shimmer.

First Light - neon yellow jelly with scattered holo and golden shimmer.

Means a lot to you - Coral jelly with a scattered holo and pinky shimmer.

Orangina - neon orange jelly with a golden pink shimmer and scattered holo

Feet in the ocean - neon blue jelly with scattered holo flakes and a blue shimmer.

The formula on all these was consistant. Thin and quite sheer to start with, but buildable at three coats for full coverage.
