Digital Dozen does Holo - Day 3

Look, look, I did a double rainbow thing. First a gradient and then holo rainbows too! I'm loving this look so much, cause it's such 'me' nail art.

I recently grabbed a whole bunch of the JOSS creme polishes during their sale, I also think I bought the last of their stock of "Will Not", which is my absolute favorite white creme polish cause it's perfect in just one coat. I got them for about $4 each but these shades are now only $1.95 over on the Nail Super Store website.  For this gradient I used:
  • Red - Out of control
  • Orange - Space Shuttle Orange
  • Yellow - Yellow by Van Gogh
  • Blue - It's Blue. Period.
  • Green - Viridian Green
  • Pink - Fandango Pink

I then applied some nail foils and a thin coat of Orly bonder - which is decent sticky base coat that burnished powders seem to stick to quite well.  Finally, I burnished in some holo power and peeled the vinyls off.

JOSS polishes from aussie indie con VIP bag

It's been forever since I did swatching.  Man, that is a lot of work. Applying polish, photographing it and removing it all in about 10-15 minutes.  I got to the point where I could do 5-6 polishes in an hour.  Then you had to do the image editing to crop the pictures and make them all look uniform and colour correct.  But every now and then, I do love to show a swatch and today is one of those days.

I have two polishes to show you that were in the VIP bag at Aussie Indie Con.  They are both JOSS polishes, which I have a huge passion for.

First up is Black Magic Holo.  As you can see it's a black polish with a strong holo flame. Opactiy is great and you get full coverage with two coats and top coat doesn't effect the holoness.

The second polish is called 'Better than Bare' and its a very natural naked shade.  I attempted to create a holo tip gradient, which has been a huge Instagram trend recently with salon nails, usually in a ballerina or coffin shaped mani. I did it by rubbing some holo powder into the tips, I liked the look, but I think it looks better on really long, and more pointed nails rather than my square ones.

JOSS Stamping Polish

Today I have a super quick swatch review of some stamping polishes that I recently received from the Nail Super Store.  The collection is a range of six metallic stamping polishes under the
JOSS brand.

For these stamping swatches I used my yellow medium soft stamper head from Messy Mansion and various Born Pretty stamping plates from the BP-L001 thru BP-L008 plates.  I stamped each polish over black and white.

First up is Blue and Steel.  Blue is a nicely pigmented metallic blue, and steel is a dark silver.

Crimson and Lilac.  Crimson is a medium pink and lilac is a pale lilac silver.

Silver and Green.  Silver is a classic metallic silver and green is a pale golden green.

All of these polishes stamped perfectly.  They were nice and thick and slow drying on the stamper, so you don't have work super fast like you do with the Sally Hansen or Layla chromes.

I really love the colour of blue and crimson, but I wish the colour differences between steel, silver and lilac were more obvious.  The colour in the bottle seems brighter and more coloured than the finished look on your nail.

The JOSS Stamping polishes are available from The Nail Super Store and are AUD$6.95 for a 9ml bottle. Plus they are all 5-Free, so you know what you are stamping on your nails.

Keep a look out for your chance to win a full set of these polishes in my up coming 5 year blog anniversary giveaway.

JOSS 2014 Glitter Collection

Update on my Nahla - she is doing much better.  She feels squishy and cuddly, is eating plenty and no longer has a bad breath.  Still more fluid injections tomorrow, but I'm very happy with her progress.

Today I have the follow up post to the JOSS Bold Collection I showed nearly two weeks ago. This collection of six polishes make up the Glitter Collection and each polish has a mix of ultra fine glitters and colour shifting glass flecks.  Lets

Aussie Green (and Gold) - a sparkly green polish with fine green glitters and gold to green to blue colour shifting glass flecks.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Brushin' on the ritz - a pale pink glass fleck polish with darker pink micro glitters.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Glitterescent - JOSS has a knack for making interesting and unique colours.  This one reminds me of the same tones of one of the JOSS holos - Alternate Dimension.  Its hard to describe, it's like a rusty orangey pink, but I wouldn't call it a coral.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Pop goes the pinki - a bright pink base with pink microglitter and blue glass flecks.  I love the contrasting pink base and blue flecks.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Shattered Gold - I actually wore this polish back as a Christmas mani, where I managed to capture its sparkles more because I photographed it with indoor lighting.  I love this shade of gold and it's incredibly sparkly. This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Steel Magnolia - This one might be my favourite of the bunch.  The base is a dusty purple shade with holo microglitters and the glass fleck shift from a purple to a dark olive green/grey. This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

JOSS Boutique lacquers are available from the Nail Super Store for $6.95AUD - an amazing price for polishes of this quality.  The nail Super Store is also where you can also buy all your polish making needs from bottles to suspension base and quite possibly the best nail polish tinters in the world.

JOSS Bold Collection

It's been a while since is did a good ol' swatch post, so today I have one with a newish collection of colours from Aussie boutique brand JOSS.

This collection has six shimmery bold and bright colours that are perfect on their own or for use in nail art.  The pigmentation on them all is great, and they are all easy two coaters.  The shimmer particles are amazing in these and create a very metallic finish without leaving brush strokes.  The remind me of the Kleancolour Metallics, except minus the nasty smell and without the staining.

Boldest Blue
-a bright metallic medium blue.  Wow look at that colour.  It really looks like the saturation is turned up on this, but seriously this is exactly how it looks in real life, it just glows.

Chrissie's Brass - A rusty orangy red metallic shimmer, such a wonderful unique colour. The shimmer is quite gold against the dark orange base.

Forest Moon - Dark green shimmery metallic with slight teal duochrome look at the edges.

More Nail Gold - WOW check this out.  This gold is amazing.  I think it will be incredible in nail art too.  Although he never told me, I suspect that Ray, the creator of JOSS polish, named this one after my blog, knowing my extreme love for gold polishes.  Ray, I love it.  Just look at it GLOW!

Purple Vixen - a dark purple base packed with blue metallic shimmer, this one also has a soft duocrhome shimmer because of the different base and shimmer colours.  This is just the sort of blurple shade I love.

Summer Swimsuit - pinks aren't usually my colour but the metallic appearance of this one, and the blueish shimmery glows means I can't help but love it.

JOSS Boutique lacquers are available from the Nail Super Store for $6.95AUD - an amazing price for polishes of this quality.  The nail Super Store is also where you can also buy all your polish making needs from bottles to suspension base and quite possibly the best nail polish tinters in the world.
