I have a few polishes from not just a new-to-me indie, but a brand new indie.  Black Dahlia Lacquer formally launched on October 3 and are a mother and daughter team that have released three collections at their launch, with a massive 24 polishes across the line.  

I have three holo polishes from the Fall 2014 collection to share tonight, and three more glitter shades to show tomorrow.  Let's take a look.

African Violets - a pale lavender shimmer with a  soft scattered holo finish.  I'm so in love with this shade, it is simply stunning.  The holo is only subtle because of the milkier finish to the colour, but the pastel blue is gorgeous.  Formula was great, this is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Silver Willow - a much stronger silver blue holo with an added violet shimmer. Clearly the holo is stronger in this one and the added violet shimmer gives this a little something extra.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Wild Cherry Blossoms - a richly pigmented red leaning pink holo.  This was a killer to photograph. The holo was nearly impossible to capture on the nail in the photos, but as you can see in the bottle it really does sparkle with that bright blue flame.  Plenty of pigmentation make this almost a one coater.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Gosh I love it when our little Aussie super brand, Ulta3, comes up with the goods again. I'm really excited to share with you my thoughts about the brand new special effect watercolour polishes from Ulta3.  These polishes will be available either individually ($2), or packaged as a set with Lily White ($10).

I have swatches of each of these shades, showing a single coat over white, two coats, three coats and four coats.  As you can see, these are definitely sheer, and they are sheerer in colour compared to the OPI sheer tints.  But the formula is really great.  They aren't thick and gloopy, instead they are smooth and runny - but not water runny.  Even at four coats, the finish isn't too thick and the dry time for each layer is good. At one coat, the coverage levels out nicely and the finish isn't streaky.  We definitely are on a winner with these - especially at only $2 a pop!

Cello yellow - a bright sunshine yellow in the bottle, but a soft pastel yellow over white.  I wouldn't recommend this one without the white base, as it will just make it look like you have stained yellow nails.  The palest of the shades and it doesn't show the building colour intensity as much as the other colours.

Marine Blue - a deep sea aquarium effect in the bottle, but a soft pastel shade on the nail.  The colour intensity builds quite nicely with this one.

Peek-a-boo purple - a brilliant gemstone effect in the bottle, creating a soft purple shade on the nail.  This one builds up nicely too.

Seeing red - a bright toffee apple glaze effect in the bottle, creating a sheer coral finish on the nail.  This one doesn't so the colour intensity as much at four coats.

I have some ideas to show you how you can wear these, and here is the first.  These watercolour effect polishes are just perfect to do leadlight technique.  This look is really simple to create.

I've just finished catching up with all the comments to make me smile on my Mont Blue glass nail file giveaway post.  It's been really fun reading all your little stories and you all definitely made me smile.  I have a little story of something that made me smile recently, and actually makes me have a little giggle every time I see it. 

A week or so ago, my sweet hubby had just finishing cleaning the toilet (I know, he's a keeper right). When he was finished he grabbed the Duck Fresh Disks cleaning jelly (this sort of thing).  The thing is a tube of toilet cleaning jelly, that you push the insert at the end and it squeezes out a little jelly disk which sticks to the bowl.  He had never applied one to the toilet before, and as he was (apparently) very carefully pressing the insert at then end, all of a sudden, it squirted out and he managed to squeeze the entire contents of the tube out in one push.  Clearly he didn't know his own strength!  So now, instead of a small 20 cent (quarter sized) disk of gel, he had a large dinner plate size of gel covering half the the toilet bowl.  It's still there and makes me laugh every time I go to that loo!

Ok, now to today's nail stuff.  I'm actually running pretty low on swatches or nail art pictures for my blog at the moment.  I think I have about a weeks worth of photos on my camera to download and edit, but I'll be stuffed if I can be bothered doing that on a Friday night!  

As such, you will just have to do with these swatches of a whole bunch of old school Ulta3 polishes that I've been meaning to swatch and add to my colour guide for quite literately years!

You wont find any of these beauties anywhere, they are all at least 15-20 years of some of these.  I'd love to know if anyone else out there had some really old Ulta3 polishes.

Antique copper - no surprises why I purchased this one way back when.  It's totally a me colour.  It has a mix of gold and copper micro sized glitters in a clear base.  It almost builds to opacity but is probably better as a glitter topper.  this is three coats.

Charmed - Ulta3 released another polish called Charmed, which was a green glitter.  But this one is older than that.  I'm sure it was the gold shimmer in this one that caught my eye all those years ago.  It's rather stunning actually.

Copper Glow - Yep another gold toned polish.  Most of my polish stash was made up of gold toned polishes back in the early 2000's it's what I've always loved.  This one is a stunner, and it's a duochrome too.  Pretty amazing considering it's age. This is two coats.

Crazy - what's this, another golden shimmer polish - yep I told you this is all I used to buy.  This one has a bit of duochrome to it as well, or at least a contrasting shimmer to base colour.  This is two coast.

Crazy - I think this is the third polish that Ulta3 has called Crazy.  This one is a really thick base with rather chunky iridescent flakies. It's pretty cool, but the flakie bits stick up a bit.  It's the same sort of finish as Color Club Covered in Diamonds. This is one coat over a dark brown.

Romance - At least I can say this one is orange rather than gold and it has a heavy silver shimmer which makes it have that wet sparkle look.  It's bordering on a 'grandma shade' to me, but surprisingly it looked really good on!  This is two coats.

Wild - just like the Crazy flakie, this one is the blue version.  Very thick base with chunky blue iridescent flakies. This is one coat over navy blue.

I really like how this one turned out. It's definitely a 'me' mani in that it's my two favourite colours in one mani, rainbow and gold.

I do did a soft pastel diagonal gradient on my thumb, index and middle fingers and then stamped with Essie Good as Gold and JR-04 plate from MyOnlineShop.  On my ring and pinky I used Priti NYC Chrysanthos and then placed pastel coloured Swarovski crystals down the nails.

The only thing that is irritating me about this is that damn bright yellow crystal in the middle of my ring finger.  I swear I don't do my nails in the dark at night, but this is now the third time that I have carefully picked out crystals that I thought matched in colour when I did my nails at night, only to look at them in the day light and discover they don't match at all.  It's annoyed me for the last time though, cause last night I bought 10 of those empty circular nail wheel thingos so I can sort out my mixed bag of crystals into groups of the same colour.  I just need to make sure I do it in the sunlight!
