Orly Sparkle Christmas Collection - Mirrorball and Bling

Halloween isn't even here yet but I've got a sneak peek at two of the polishes from Orly's Sparkle Christmas Collection. There are six polishes in the collection, but these were the two that jumped out at me to get.

Mirrorball is described by Orly as a silver micro holo glitter, but it's more than just silver holo glitter.  This has some small holo glitters, but the polish is mainly made up of micro holo dust.  The finish is totally smooth and the holo dust creates a soft linear appearance, whilst the larger glitters provide extra sparkle. Coverage is good and the formula is smooth and easy to apply.  You can use it at one thin coat as a holo topper, or you can achieve opacity at three coats on it's own.  This is three coats with seche vite top coat.





These two photos taken in the shade really show up the size difference between the holo glitter and the holo dust.





Bling is described as a gold micro holo glitter, so in other words, it's the gold twin of Mirrorball.   Although they are described as the same, their finishes are quite different.  Bling is made up purely of micro fine gold holo glitter. It's very fine, but not a dust like in Mirrorball, therefore there isn't the same linear holo appearance, but the holo sparkle is just dazzling.  I was tempted to do one of those deliberately out of focus nail shots just to show how sparkly it is.

Like Mirrorball, Bling can be worn as a thin top coat, or  as three coats on it's own.  The formula is great and it's doesn't get lumpy or thick at three coats.  This is three coats with Seche Vite top coat.








There are four other polishes in the collection:
  • Tinsel: Christmas Tree Bar Glitter (red and green bar glitter)
  • Explosion of Fun: Hot Pink Shimmer
  • Steal the spotlight: Teal and Pink Glitter
  • Glitterbomb: Multi Coloured Glitter 
What do you think of these two shades?  I think they are perfect for the holiday season and it's great to see a big international brand coming out with a linear holo polish. It may not be the strongest holo, but the combo of the dust and glitter really brings it to life.

Orly Smokey Collection

Hi everyone, how is your weekend going?  I've been sick for a few days, so it's been a pretty quiet time around here.  But quiet time means I was able to get some swatches done of one of the latest collections to land on my polish desk.

Orly has just come out with a new collection of six dusty shades in the Smokey Collection.  I have my three picks from the collection to show you today.  In addition to these shades there is:
  • Blend - warm taupe creme
  • Darkest Shadow - black with a red shimmer
  • Highlight - grey creme
Edgy - Antique bronze shimmer.  The colour of this one really appeals to me.  It has bronze and platinum coloured micro flakes and shimmer in a dusty greige base.  Very sparkly in the sunlight but also with a dusty, smokey finish.  The flecks and shimmer particles are really dense and coverage is perfect at two coats.  This is two coats with Seche Vite top coat.







Smoked Out - a dark green matte shimmer.  The base colour is a very dark blackened green, and the shimmer is a much lighter turquoise shade, which makes the over finish lighter and more blue leaning.  The polish dries down to a satin finish. I wouldn't say it's totally flat matte, but it's a nice smooth finish.  This one is very highly pigmented and you can nearly get away with a single coat, so make sure you wear base coat with this one to prevent your nails getting stained.  This is two coats with no top coat.





Of course I also added top coat to see what it would look like.  This macro shows the gorgeous depth of the micro fleck shimmer.




Brush it on - Rose Bronze Duo Chrome Shimmer.  This description of this one had me most intrigued.  Duo Chrome is always going to suck me in!.  I started with two thin coats over Smoked Out.

The polish is jam packed full of micro flakes that shift from pink to bronze to green.  The glass flecks in this really reminds me of the ones in the hugely popular Orly Space Cadet from the 2010 Cosmic FX collection. The colour shift is the same on the two polishes, the obvious difference is that this one is in a clear base. 






I also tried Brush it on, on it's own.  It actually built up pretty easily and was fully opaque at two thick or three thin coats.  Without a dark base you don't see the same dramatic colour shift, but I love that you get two completely different looks with the polish.  The glass micro flecks in this polish give it a very glassy reflective finish.  This is three coats with Seche Vite top coat.

Rage with Swarovski crystals

Orly Rage is such a gorgeous rose gold foil that I can't help but pull it out from time to time and put it on.  The Orly Foil FX range were the first Orly polishes that I ever purchased more than four years ago, and I have gone through an entire bottle of Luxe in that time.

Following from my discovery that Swarovski crystals are just incomparable for nail art, I splurged on myself and purchased some mixed colour bags in another four sizes!  But I figured it was a good investment, because unlike the cheap acrylic crystals, these can be cleaned up in some acetone and they look like brand new and can be reused over and over again.  So yes, they are more expensive, but you never throw them away, which means the investment lasts a lifetime.

Dance Legend Rio #3

Just like last week, when Dance Legend Rio #1 inspired me to create crazy neon nails, Rio #3 has made me do them again.

Rio #3 contains neon square glitters in pink, orange, yellow, green and blue.  I sponged to two layers of Rio #3 to get a really dense finish.  Its such a fun polish and I love that it's only square glitters.  I want to try this glitter in a jelly sandwich with OPI Don't touch my tutu, it think it would look awesome.

I created a neon gradient on my ring and thumb fingers using Orly Neon Heat and Tropical Pop, Picture Polish Crazy and Lime lite and Ulta3 Blue Marlin.

I used some neon triangle studs that were gifted to me on a white base down the middle of my middle finger. Had my nails been long enough I would have been able to fit the last blue triangle on too.

I really love those Orly neon shades, not only are they really bright but you don't actually have to layer them over white because they are really well pigmented.

Orly Baked Collection

Tonight I have my picks from the Orly Baked Collection, which has six new bright shades, or as it's described in the Australian press release, a vivacious palette of six uber-saturated colours!

First up though, I want to share the nail art I create with the polishes, because I love how it turned out!  I attempted another mini leopard print design, and this time I've managed to make it a little smaller than the last one I did, but I'm still a way off how small I want to make it (which is like Tips and Topcoats).

I used three polishes from the Orly Baked collection, Ablaze, Neon Heat and Tropical Pop.  To create this mani I first started with a white base.  Once that way dry I did a full gradient using all three colours on my middle finger, and a half nail (taped off) on my index and pinky.  I really loved the golder shimmery finish that Ablaze had, so for the final sponge I did one layer of Ablaze over the entire gradient.  It didn't change the colour at all but just applied the golden shimmer over the full nail.

Next I painted the mini leopard print free hand using black acrylic paint and the dotted in Neon Heat and Tropical Pop to make a slight gradient effect.  Lastly I added some stripes on the pinky and thumb nails to finish up the design.





Here are some swatches of each colour on it's own.

Ablaze - Bright orange with a gold shimmer.

Tropical Pop - Neon Orange creme





I was really impressed with the formula on these.  Usually I wear a white base when I'm putting on a neon polish, but these neons didn't need it.  I used two coats for Ablaze and Neon Heat and three coats for Tropical Pop.
