Messy Mansion stamping polishes and Emily de Molly shimmers and holos.

A few weekends ago I attended a local launch party for the new Messy Mansion stamping polishes. The afternoon was lots of fun, there were about 20 ladies there all having a play with stamping, learning techniques such as regular stamping, gradient stamping and lead lighting.

I took the chance to catch up with some of my nail friends, including Hayley from Emily de Molly. Hayley had a couple of new polishes for me to try, so I promptly removed my existing mani and put on the new polishes and then had a play around with some of the stamping products.

I did two different designs, one on each hand, because that's just what you do at these sorts of things to make sure you try out a few different looks and different polishes.

This first one is Emily de Molly Savvy Trinket, which is a strong shimmery polish with gold to green to blue colour shifting shimmer in a purple base.  I stamped over it with a new Messy Mansion stamping polish called Royal Purple from their new stamping line of polishes. I also used the metal template from the Accessories Kit 2.0 to only stamp the 'V' part of the design.

On my right hand I applied Emily de Molly Iridescent Skies, which is one of three exclusive polishes created for the @hellaholocustoms members. It's a lavender pink holo with a purple shimmer.  I then did some gradient stamping using Petal and Hydrangea Blue Messy Mansion stamping polishes.

Let's also just admire my delightful hand pose with my right hand for a moment.  WTF.  My right hand will just not go where it needs to for a photo. Left hand, easy, it just falls into place. Right hand, I had to actually physically move fingers to even get it to look this good.

When I got home from the gathering I had to change my mani's so that all 10 fingers matched for work the next day.  This is what I ended up creating.

Again I use Emily de Molly Savvy Trinket as the base. I then did some gradient stamping using Mundo de Unas purple and gold polish and using DRK stamping plate XL Magic Garden. See I told you I keep using that plate!

I loved this so much.  The purple to gold gradient stamping really accentuated the duochrome appearance of this polish with it's purple base and colour shifting shimmer.

Hayley also gave me a bottle of Flatline. Ohhh WOW. These photos were taken on day two when the sun was actually out.  Look at that holo.  This polish really reminds me of OPI DS Original in terms of colour. I might have to put them side by side to compare how similar they are.

Vinyls and stamping decals

Every now and then I do a design where I even impress the pants off myself! I pride myself on my nails always looking pretty fine, but this was one time where I told myself, girl - you really nailed this shit today!

This nail art look was a combo of nail vinyls and then stamping decals.  The white base is Face of Australia Miss Congeniality (one coat). I then used the zigzag design nail vinyls from Xroma Polish and Vinyls. While they were drying, I prepared some stamping decals using the butterflies from Messy Mansion Plate MM42. I coloured the decals in using three of the Pipedream ANIVC neons.

Tonight you get two tutorial instavideos!  First one creating the stamping decals and then one showing the vinyls and decal application.  Enjoy.

FUN Lacquer Royal Chapel with Chevron stamping

I have a very simple mani tonight, glitter and stamping and it's the same on all 10 fingers!  Not my most creative look, but it was very sparkly and kinda funky.

The base polish is the stunning copper toned holographic glitter that is FUN Lacquer Royal Chapel. The stamping is from the Messy Mansion chevron plate MM12.

Feeling tired at the end of a straining week this week, so I don't have much chit chat in me. Plus I've been wearing the same mani for three days now and I don't even think I will do my nails tonight - but I've got to say it's one of my favourite designs I've created in a really long time. I also recorded a video when I painted it, so at least there is something to look forward to.

Have a great Friday everyone.

Scaled stamping over Gaia with Messy Mansion accessories

I have a post Christmas catch up with my closest nail friends, and was lucky enough to get some of the new Messy Mansion accessories.

I got a stamping template.  This neat little metal plate is the same size as a credit card and is made of satin finished metal.  It has five sizes of finger nail holes. I found the the middle size was perfect for my index, middle and ring finger, the second smallest one was right for my pinking and the second largest one was right for my thumb. The engraved Messy Mansion design on the plate is also stampable using creme polishes, but not shimmers, as it's not very deep.

Here is how my index finger lined up in the template.

I then used the template to select a section of the stamping plate to be sure what would fit on my nail.  This is a suki plate from moyou.  I'd seen this done on other blogs using a piece of paper or card, with cut out area for your nails, but I had never bothered with crafting one up.  All the hard work was already done for me with this template.

Although I didn't try it, Julia from Messy Mansion said that you can actually pick up the stamping design through the template.  Eg, paint, scrape, put template down and then pick up the design.  This saves you picking up too much other design onto your stamper that you then have to clean off.  But like I said, I never tried that.

Also included in the accessory kit is this transparent scraper.  Its lovely and flexible with smooth edges and does a great job at scraping my plates.  I love that it is transparent too, because it means I can see if I'm applying too much or too little pressure as I scrape.  It cleans up perfectly with acetone and doesn't leave any white marks from melted plastic, nor does the black Messy Mansion motif get gross and come off, because it appears to be sandwiched inside the plastic card.

The accessory kit also comes with a Priming Block - which is a magic eraser for those that know what they are.  It does a great job at cleaning off any shiny residue from a stamper.

The accessory kits are currently being packaged up with different configurations. One with three scrapers, a template and a priming block will be about $5 from what I read on the Messy Mansion Facebook group.

Now onto my stamped mani over Gaia.

Messy Mansion - 10 Stamper Head Pro Set Review

Yay, it arrived. I ordered the new Messy Mansion pro boxed set of 10 stamper heads the weekend they were released. Sadly Australia Post have been so slow in delivering this to me, especially as Messy Mansion HQ is less than an hour from my place! But it's here now, and I'm excited to show you the new stamps.

The Pro Set comes in a small tin and includes 10 customs stamping heads, a standard XL double sided stamper with two plastic scrapers and a magic eraser sponge block. Each stamping head comes in its clear plastic manufacturing mold, which is fantastic as it ensures they don't get squished out of shape during shipping.  It also protects them from dust and hair and anything else that might damage the silicone (especially the marshmallow squishy and sticky ones).  To get the stampers out of the plastic, you gently pull the edges in releasing the seal on the plastic, you can then slightly squish and roll each one out.  I'm going to continue to store each stamper in it's plastic housing for safe keeping when not in use.

The ten stampers come in five different softnesses, with each softness provided in a light coloured stamper and a dark coloured stamper (you use the different colours so you can see a contrast of the polish on the stamper eg dark polish on the light stamper and light polishes on the dark stamper).

The range of softnesses is as follows:

Pink and maroon = Soft and sticky
Yellow and brown = Medium soft and sticky
Green and forest green = Medium
Mauve and dark purple = Medium firm
Blue and navy = Firm

Descriptions such as soft, medium and firm are hard to interpret, because something I say is medium might be soft to someone else, so let me really show you the squishiness of some of these.

Please remember that the light a dark colours in a set are the same squishiness, so where you see a photo of one, know that its pair coloured stamper is the same softness.

First up is the soft pink/maroon ones.  Here I have a squash comparison with my original soft and squishy XL stamping head.  The old stamper is actually unusable now, the silicone has started to break down and the surface is pitted (I stupidly used acetone on it instead of cleaning it with sticky tape), but it's still the softest marshmallow stamping head I have.

The pink and maroon heads are nice and squishy and a little sticky.  Not as sticky as the white one, but that might be an age thing. The pink/maroon heads are not quite a squishy as the white one, it's only marginal but I could feel a difference in a hard squish test like this.

Here is the difference between the soft and the medium soft stampers.  Both are slightly sticky and the squishiness is quite similar.  The pink/maroon ones are just that little bit softer than the yellow/brown ones.  It felt like about the same difference as between the pink and the original marshmallow above.

Here is a comparison between the softest pink/maroon heads and the firmest blue/navy heads.

I also compared the blue heads with the new white head that arrived in the XL stamper in the tin.  The blue was just a shade softer than it.

Here is another squish test on the soft, medium soft and medium stamper heads.

And one last comparative squish test, this time squashing the stamper sideways.  All these were squeezed together with firm pressure as consistently as possible.

As a final summary to squishiness, I rated all my stampers in a squish test.  I did a one on one comparison through all my stamping heads to come up with the following list.

From squishiest at number 1 to hardest at number 9:
  1. Original marshmallow white stamper (bought from Messy Mansion last year)
  2. Pink/maroon MM
  3. Yellow/brown MM
  4. Green/forest green MM
  5. Soft XL white stamper (bought from Messy Mansion last year)
  6. Mauve/purple MM
  7. Blue/Navy MM
  8. New XL white stamper in this tin
  9. Dark Purple XL replacement head (from Messy Mansion last year)
OK, enough on squishiness, lets move onto size to find out if size matters?

The size of these stamper heads is slightly different to all my previous XL stamper heads.  They are a few mm taller...

... and the tiniest bit larger in circumference.  For me, this slight size increase is awesome!!  One thing that really drove me bonkers with the original marshmallow stamper was that it kept falling out of the holder, either sticking to the plate or to my nail.  These ones fit snugly into the XL stamper and don't fall out.

Of course it doesn't really matter how squishy or firm a stamper is if it doesn't actually stamp, right! I did a quick test of each firmness to see how they went.

These quick stamping tests were done using Mundo de Unas black stamping polish and a Moyou London plate.  I used each stamper directly out of it's plastic housing without any priming.  The set comes with a magic eraser block that you can use to prime your stamper if you have any problems with it picking up, but I didn't find I need to prime these at all.

I'm sure there will be people out there wondering what you need 10 stamping heads for, and to those people I answer with, 'I need 10 stamping heads like I need 2000 polishes', or "I need 10 stamping heads like I need 20 silver holographic polishes', or 'I need 10 stamping heads because I just need 10 stamping heads'.  So you get the idea right.  In all seriousness though, I will use the mostly for stamping decals and reverse stamping.  Having multiple stampers means I can do more nails in decals and it reduces the time frames for do it.  Plus imagine the stamping parties I can have with my friends now!

The 10 Stamper Head Pro set is currently sold out, but I know Julia has heaps of stock, so there will be more listed.  Each pair of of stamper heads is also sold individually, either with a tin or without.  At the moment they are only for sale from the 'old' Messy Mansion website, items sold on this site are shipped from Australia. There is stock already on it's way to the USA and when it gets there, they will be sold through the 'new' Messy Mansion website as well as through Amazon - I think this could be as soon as next week.

I know there are lots of people looking for squishy stampers, so I hope you found this post useful.

P.S. Can you believe that I happened to still have on a multicoloured gradient that matched the stamper head colours (third day running on this mani so it was looking a bit beaten up)  It was like it was meant to be that they arrived today!

Black Lace with Messy Mansion MM44

OK, I think I like this one even more than the white one!  It's basically the identical design but in black.

For the base I mixed up a black jelly tint by adding about 4-5 drops of black polish to some clear polish in a mini bottle.  I applied two coats of that jelly tint and I actually thought it was going to be too dark, but as you can see, it hardly looks like there is any tint to the base now that that the design is finished.

I stamped using Mundo de Unas Black polish and outlined my nails with regular black polish.  The red rhinestones are SS05 Swarovski crystals.  The lace design is from Messy Mansion plate MM44,.

White Lace with Messy Mansion MM44

Ah, that age old question - Are you a white lace or black lace gal?  Tonight I'm white lace.

In my opinion, the best lace stamping plate is Messy Mansion's MM44. It's perfectly etched and has so many different lacy designs to choose from.

For this mani I started with a base of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu (although I suspect my bottle is fake, as I bought it from the same proven dodgy local retailer.)  I then stamped with Mundo de Unas white polish and outlined my nails with white polish.  Finished with silver SS05 Swarovski Crystals in the centre of each lace flower.

In other stamping news, do you want one of those super squishy marshmallow stampers? Well Messy Mansion have you covered.  They have just released a set of 10 stampers, they come in sets of two, a light and a dark colour, and in five different softnesses.  Despite the fact that Julia from Messy Mansion only lives just outside of town, we haven't been able to organise a met up for any time soon, so when I purchased my complete set, I paid for postage across town.  I'm hoping it will be here really soon so I can do a review and show you all.

Pink and purple vertical gradient with crazy chevrons

Here is a 'quick' mani that I wore last week.  It's sad when a quick mani actually involves a gradient and stamping isn't it!  Does anyone else ever feel pressure from their work colleagues to keep churning out the nail art?  I guess I can't really say it's pressure, but they sure do notice when I don't have something 'fancy' on my nails and they comment along the lines of "what was wrong with you last night", or "your nails are looking a bit plain today".  Yes work people - sometimes I just like to wear a plain regular creme polish with nothing else fancy about it and feel totally fine about doing so.

Anywho, did anyone else read this article on news.com.au today about our use of the urban dictionary and words/phrases we should just stop using?  It made me laugh, because the first two word/phrases in the list contained the names of three recent polishes in my collection. Because I have quite an international readership, I'm wondering if the words in this list are Australian urban words, or are they used in other countries too? Obviously some are quite well used worldwide, but I wondered if others were more Australian?

Ok, enough babbling, it's late because I just watched the finale episode of Game of Thrones (yay it was awesome, boo we have to wait nine months until next season). I still have to finish this blog post and do my nails, and I need to be in bed before 11.30pm because I'm just so god damn busy at work at the moment (and without enough sleep Cathy's brain no function well).

Nails... vertical gradient using Picture Polish candy and swagger, stamped with two images from the Messy Mansion chevron plate. Done.

Thanks for stopping by and looking and my nails (and listening to by drivel).
