Different Dimension Family with Butterfly Wings

Well where did that last week go? I'll tell you where, it went back to work. I've been off on personal leave since I had my surgery in December for my shattered foot. The bones seemed to be healing well, but my surgery wound split open, and as such I was under doctors orders to keep off my foot and keep it elevated until the split wound healed. My wound finally healed over and I was given the ok to return to work after 12 weeks off.

Returning to work after such a long time was weird. I felt like the new girl again. Much of my first day was spent being a social butterfly and filling my colleagues in on what had happened to me. I'm still being briefed about what has happened at work in that time. It's odd because it seems like everything has changed, new people in new jobs etc, yet nothing has changed at all.

So with the return to work I've really not got to the polish table much. I actually had the same mani on for the full week last week! I sure hope I'm able to do some new nail art in the next day or two.

This nail art is old. This is actually the mani I wore for my birthday last year! It's been sitting there waiting for me to post for three months.

I've got another Digital Dozen next week, so I'm really going to have to get my act together and prepare my five manis for that.

Messy Mansion stamping polishes and Emily de Molly shimmers and holos.

A few weekends ago I attended a local launch party for the new Messy Mansion stamping polishes. The afternoon was lots of fun, there were about 20 ladies there all having a play with stamping, learning techniques such as regular stamping, gradient stamping and lead lighting.

I took the chance to catch up with some of my nail friends, including Hayley from Emily de Molly. Hayley had a couple of new polishes for me to try, so I promptly removed my existing mani and put on the new polishes and then had a play around with some of the stamping products.

I did two different designs, one on each hand, because that's just what you do at these sorts of things to make sure you try out a few different looks and different polishes.

This first one is Emily de Molly Savvy Trinket, which is a strong shimmery polish with gold to green to blue colour shifting shimmer in a purple base. I stamped over it with a new Messy Mansion stamping polish called Royal Purple from their new stamping line of polishes. I also used the metal template from the Accessories Kit 2.0 to only stamp the 'V' part of the design.

On my right hand I applied Emily de Molly Iridescent Skies, which is one of three exclusive polishes created for the @hellaholocustoms members. It's a lavender pink holo with a purple shimmer. I then did some gradient stamping using Petal and Hydrangea Blue Messy Mansion stamping polishes.

Let's also just admire my delightful hand pose with my right hand for a moment. WTF. My right hand will just not go where it needs to for a photo. Left hand, easy, it just falls into place. Right hand, I had to actually physically move fingers to even get it to look this good.

When I got home from the gathering I had to change my mani's so that all 10 fingers matched for work the next day. This is what I ended up creating.

Again I use Emily de Molly Savvy Trinket as the base. I then did some gradient stamping using Mundo de Unas purple and gold polish and using DRK stamping plate XL Magic Garden. See I told you I keep using that plate!

I loved this so much. The purple to gold gradient stamping really accentuated the duochrome appearance of this polish with it's purple base and colour shifting shimmer.

Hayley also gave me a bottle of Flatline. Ohhh WOW. These photos were taken on day two when the sun was actually out. Look at that holo. This polish really reminds me of OPI DS Original in terms of colour. I might have to put them side by side to compare how similar they are.

Bow Polish - Dark Days with metallic stamping

Its Autumn school holidays here at the moment, and I've taken this last week off work to spend some time with the kiddos. Today's was actually my Son's birthday, he wanted to play golf, so the four of us headed out and played nine holes. He loved having a swing with the golf club (as did I), but I think he enjoyed getting a chance to drive the golf cart most of all. We went out to Teppanyaki Japanese for dinner, which is always entertaining for the kids.

Earlier this week we visited Questacon, which is the National Science and Technology Centre that is a hands on science based museum for the kids. My two loved it and I could see their inquiring minds thinking and exploring ideas. However it shocked me just how many children , and I'm not talking little kids, I'm talking 10-13 year olds, couldn't be bothered reading the explanations or listening to the staff about how and why things worked the way they did. Instead they would run up to an exhibit and grab whatever it was before some else could and then shake it, or bang it or spin it to see what is did and the would run off. I can't imagine that they learnt anything!

Anyway, enough about my life, lets look at my nails instead.

It had been ages since I'd used some of my metallic Hit the bottle stamping polishes, so I pulled out three complementary colours and noticed that they looked fabulous next to a new Bow polish I had. The Bow polish is called Dark Days and it's a black jelly polish with multicoloured flakes in it as well as scattered holo shards.

Here is the finished mani using PUEEN46 plate and purple, blue and green stamping polishes from Hit the Bottle.

I remembered to snap some swatch photos of Dark Days on it's own before I stamped over it. The formula was great and it was opaque at two coats, although I did three thin coats to get more depth to the multicoloured flakies.

Price check on this black and white mani - bar code nail art

I did bar code nail art nearly four years ago, and back then it was a really popular design. But when I look back at it now I just cringe. Argh, the messy cuticles, the wobbly lines, the numbers all over the place!! This was a nail art design that was screaming out for me to redo using a clear stamper.

Oh clear stamper how you have changed my world. Placing these stamped lines was so much easier and as for doing the numbers at the bottom! WOW, the ability to see where you are stamping is such a game changer.

For the bar code lines on this mani I used an image from DRK-A plate. I just taped off the tip of my nail and stamped over it. For the numbers along the bottom, I just used the numbers from the Bundle Monster stamping plates, mixing them up a bit from 3-4 plates to get some different number combos.

Colouring in - on my nails with sharpies

Anyone else here like colouring in? I really enjoy doing it and so do both my kids. My problem is that I rarely have the time just to colour. My spare time is always spend blogging or doing my nails. So why not combine those two hobbies and do colouring in on my nails.

That's exactly what I did for this mani. I started with a white base and then stamped the design with black polish. I then grabbed a rainbow set of Sharpie pens and just started colouring. So simple and easy to do, plus fun and relaxing too.

Game of Thrones Nail art featuring Colors by Llarowe Mine is Nine

Tuesday night at our place is Game of Thrones night. We record it on Foxtel iQ when it's live from the USA on Monday morning, but we never get a chance to watch it until Tuesday nights.

I was inspired by some images on my MJ XXV plate, which had the Game of Thrones text and the Stark dire wolf. On my index and pinky I used some gears designs off Bundle Monster 415, I chose these designs because they reminded me of the shows intro with all the cities building with gear winding the upwards etc. On my thumb I stamped a dragon from Messy Mansion MM21.

My base polish is Picture Polish Nougat and the flakie polish on top is Colors by Llarowe Mine is Nine, which is sponged on.

I really love the combo of Mine is Nine layered over Nougat, as once again it shows it more like it looks in the bottle.
