What's Indie box for July?

Hello? Is anyone out there?  Kat Daniels? You're my runner up, now winner of the Ulta3 Glitterati Collection, you only have 24 hours left, otherwise the prize is offered to 3rd place.

I'm excited to show you this post tonight.  I'm sharing the July What's In-die box?  For those that don't know what What's In-die Box is, it's a new monthly subscription box (July is the second month) in which you get 5 full sized Indie polishes from a range of different Aussie Indie brands, which we all know are the best indies around (OK maybe I'm a little biased!)

Each month the polishes are themed and all bottles are individually numbered.

The package arrives with all polishes individually wrapped in bubble wrap inside colour tissue paper and crape paper streamers.

This months theme is "Little Miss" and polishes have been created from the following Aussie indie brands:  Peita's Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, MacFresh Nail Attire, Shades of Phoenix and Glam Polish.

Let's take a look at each of the shades individually.

I am Miss Haughty Taughty - by Lilypad Lacquer. Predominately green, blue and holographic fine glitter with large pink and yellow hexes.   I applied two coats over a green creme polish from a Glam Polish set I bought in a tube at Target. Application was good and I was easily able to get the pink and yellow glitters out of the bottle and positioned nicely on my nails. This is so much more sparkly in real life and it is really pretty.

I'm a Chatterbox - by Peita's Polish. Fine matte glitters in mainly pink, with some blue and yellow.  I love these sorts of polishes, the only other similar one I have is Floam, but I've always liked the other colour combinations of the glitter.  This is two coats of I'm a Chatterbox over Ulta3 Spring Break.  Totally in love with this combo in real life.

Little Miss Naughty - by Glam Polish. A bright lilac crelly polish with pink, green and white squares. The base colour has a nice opacity where is shows the glitters well but provides coverage in two coats.  I did need to scrape some of the glitters from the side of my bottle and mix them around a bit, and the side of the bottle still shows lots more glitter than I was able to get on my nails. Application was smooth and easy and the polish is classic Glam Polish style. This is two coats with Seche Vite.

Little Miss Bad - by Shades of Phoenix. A light blue creme with pink, blue and black glitters of various sizes.  Great smooth application with a really good opacity for a pastel creme with glitter.  I used two coats with Seche Vite top coat.  This is one polish that really comes to life with top coat.  Without it, it looks kinda dull an a little bumpy, but the instant you apply top coat it all smooths out and looks so pretty and delicate.

Whoops! - by MacFresh Nail Attire.  A light purple jelly base with black hexes and bars, pink dots and white rectangles.  A truly unique polish and the finished mani is really something quite special, but you will require a bit of skill and patience in applying this polish.  The bar glitters are long (but don't curl), but your going to want to make sure they are positioned away from your free edge, otherwise they are scratchy and you end up picking at them.  The large rectangles also tend to make the glitter clump a little, so you will need to jiggle that brush.  I did four coats to get opacity, so probably should have layered it, but I really love the finish I got.

So you want in on this deal right!  You're bummed you missed out on this month and you want all the deets for next month?  Alright!

Next months brands are Gloss 'n Sparkle, Sayuri Lacquer, Pieta's Polish, Lilypad Lacquer and Glam Polish.

The theme for August's box is Wreck It Ralph, and the following images have been provided as polish inspirations.  COOL!

The August What's Indie Box goes on sale this Saturday, 13 July from the Glam Polish Big Cartel Store.  The box costs $47.99 + $7.95 postage.  Shipping is only available to Australia.

So I have a whole bunch of questions you guys can answer, such as:
  • What do you all think about this months polishes?
  • What do you think about the idea of a monthly subscription box for indie brands?
  • Do you wish you could get this box in your country?
  • Do you think indie brands in other countries will group together to create a similar sort of subscription box?
  • Do you like the idea of a total surprise each month or would you rather see the polishes before you purchase the box?
  • Do you think you already own too much nail polish?
  • Is there such a thing as owing too much nail polish?
  • Am I just asking stupid questions for the hell of it?

  1. I love the theme for next month! I'm a chatterbox is probably my favourite from this month. Very pretty

  2. Awesome swatches as always :) To answer your questions-

    * I have bought both boxes so far and I absolutely love the polishes :)
    * It's a fantastic idea and I'm sure it will take off in the USA at least.
    * I love the surprise element. I realize that I will probably sometimes get something I either don't love, or might be really similar to something I already have, but that's all part of a subscription :)
    * As for the last three questions- No, no and yes :)

  3. I love the idea of a indie polish subscription box, and I hope someone offers it in the USA in the near future. My only concern would be that I have so many polishes, I would hate to get any dupes. Are these never before released polishes in the box? I love the idea of a total surprise, because I'd probably end up with something that I might not pick out myself. And yes, I do think I own too much nail polish, but that's not stopping me from buying more.

    1. I would love something like this in USA. They have ones here for individual brands, but it would be great to have multiple brands participate. I'm hoping Llarowe will pick up the idea if it's practical; I wrote to suggest it to them.

  5. I love the idea of a surprise indie box - and the ones featured this month are amazing! But five polishes and fifty dollars a month is too much for me. I would totally sign up for a box with two polishes a month, say, or a bimonthly or quarterly larger box.

  6. I like the idea, but agree with lauredhel, that smaller box or bi monthly options would be great. Also I can't believe the winners of the comp aren't claiming their prize ?? I check the blog 800 times a night to see if the new post is up yet !!!! :)

  7. I love the first polish the green with glitter, I am Miss Haughty Taughty. That is beautiful The blue one reminds me of Revlon's Whimsical but it's cuter with the little square glitters.

  8. I think this is a great idea! For me, I would just need to find out in advance if the polishes incl. will be vegan and cruelty free. And I like the surprise element.

And no such thing as too much polish :D
